House Lothston was a noble family of the Riverlands that came to hold the title of Lords of Harrenhal, the most feared stronghold in Westeros. Sworn to House Tully, their banner bore a black bat on a field split gold and silver, and their name ended up tied to the worst stories told about the castle.
By the time the tale of A Song of Ice and Fire begins they had been gone for generations, but the reputation for madness they left behind still clung to Harrenhal's walls.
Chapter 1
A master-at-arms inherits Harrenhal

Aegon III TargaryenIn 151 AC King Aegon III handed Harrenhal to Ser Lucas Lothston, a master-at-arms of the Red Keep. Lucas had recently married Lady Falena Stokeworth, formerly the mistress of Prince Aegon.
As soon as he took the lordship, Lord Lucas withdrew from court with his wife and settled into the castle he had just been given.
Chapter 2
A name with a dark reputation

The Lothston name always dragged dark rumors behind it. Manfred Lothston was said to have betrayed a Blackfyre pretender, and Lady Danelle Lothston was said to send giant bats to snatch children for her cauldrons.
She was also said to bathe in blood and taste human flesh, tales that over time became tangled with the stones of the castle itself.
Chapter 3
The end of the line

Maekar I TargaryenThe line died out during the reign of Maekar I, when Lady Danelle began practicing dark arts and the Lothston name sank the rest of the way into disgrace.
The last Lothston was killed under circumstances no one has ever fully explained, with the help of an ancestor of Ser Illifer. Harrenhal then passed to House Whent.
Chapter 4
A borrowed name in the Golden Company

Long after the house had died out, a man called Jon Lothston served in the Golden Company and swore loyalty to Prince Aegon before the company sailed for Westeros.
Nothing confirms he was a real Lothston: among sellswords anyone can take whatever name suits them, so the name may have outlived the house without any blood behind it.
