In 298 AC, at Vaes Dothrak, Khal Drogo killed Viserys Targaryen by pouring a cauldron of molten gold over his head — the crown Viserys himself had long demanded.

It was the end of the last Targaryen who still called himself a reigning king, and the moment his sister Daenerys was left as the visible head of her house among the Dothraki.

Death

At Vaes Dothrak, Viserys Targaryen demanded of Khal Drogo the golden crown he had long claimed as the price agreed for his sister Daenerys's hand.

Drogo gave it to him: a cauldron of molten gold poured over his head, before the whole khalasar. Viserys died there. Daenerys, who watched it happen, was left as the only recognizable claimant of dragon's blood among the Dothraki.
