Execution of Rickard and Brandon Stark

ejecución de Rickard y Brandon Stark

In 282 AC, King Aerys II Targaryen had Lord Rickard Stark and his eldest son Brandon put to death in King's Landing. The order followed Lyanna Stark's disappearance alongside Prince Rhaegar and helped light the war that would end House Targaryen's hold on the Iron Throne.

Father and son reached the capital by different roads — one summoned like many other lords, the other searching for news of his sister. Neither left alive.

Chapter 1

Prisoners in King's Landing

282 ACBooks only

Brandon Stark was riding to Riverrun to marry Catelyn Tully when word reached him that his sister Lyanna had vanished together with Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. He turned for King's Landing instead, demanding answers.

There he and the men riding with him were seized on the crown's orders. Not long after, Lord Rickard Stark himself was summoned to the capital along with roughly two hundred other lords and their sons, none of them told why.

Chapter 2

Aerys's sentence

282 ACBooks only

Rickard Stark was burned alive on Aerys's orders, and his son Brandon was strangled on the same command. Elbert Arryn was executed that same day.

Aerys then demanded that Jon Arryn send him the heads of the two wards in his household, Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon. Arryn refused and called his own bannermen to arms instead — the spark that set off Robert's Rebellion.
