Daemion Velaryon

Daemion Velaryon was a minor member of House Velaryon, a cousin of Lord Alyn Velaryon, Lord of the Tides of Driftmark during the reign of Aegon III Targaryen.

The son of Ser Vaemond Velaryon, he and his brother Daeron were drawn into their family's long-running dispute over the lordship of Driftmark, a quarrel that took years to settle.

Chapter 1

The price of a claim

Books only

Daemion was the son of Ser Vaemond Velaryon, a cousin of Lord Corlys Velaryon, and had a brother, Daeron. When Corlys's only son died, Vaemond pressed a claim before the court, arguing that Rhaenyra Targaryen's children by Ser Laenor Velaryon carried no Velaryon blood. The charge cost him dearly: Prince Daemon Targaryen killed him for it.

Daemion's mother and brother later traveled to King's Landing with other kinsmen to demand justice from King Viserys I for Vaemond's death. The king heard their plea in heavy silence and ordered the tongues of those who had spoken cut out. Daemion and Daeron were spared the punishment; their cousins were not.

Chapter 2

The reconciliation at Driftmark

132 ACBooks only

In 132 AC Lord Corlys Velaryon died, and Alyn Velaryon's claim to succeed him was challenged once more. Daeron and Daemion brought their case before the council at King's Landing, hoping for a better outcome this time.

The Hand of the King and the regents ruled against the brothers regardless. Rather than prolong the feud, both chose to accept the verdict and make peace with Alyn. The new Lord of the Tides granted them lands on Driftmark in exchange for adding their ships to his fleet.
