Daeron Velaryon

Daeron was born into House Velaryon, the son of Ser Vaemond, one of the cousins of Lord Corlys Velaryon, the Lord of Driftmark's Tides. His brother was named Daemion, and the two of them would later be tangled together in the family's succession disputes.

With his wife Hazel Harte he had a daughter, Daenaera Velaryon, the only child recorded for him.

When Lord Corlys's only son died, Vaemond saw a chance to claim Driftmark for himself: he told the court that the children of Ser Laenor Velaryon and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen were in truth bastards with no right to inherit. The accusation cost him dearly — Prince Daemon Targaryen took his life for it.

Other cousins of the family brought the matter before King Viserys I at King's Landing, demanding justice for Vaemond's death. The king heard the plea, made in total silence, and ordered the tongues cut from those who had raised it; Daeron and his brother Daemion were left out of the punishment.

Lord Corlys died in 132 AC, and with him gone Alyn Velaryon's position as his heir was questioned once again. Daeron and Daemion brought their claim before the council convened at King's Landing, but both the Hand of the King and the regents ruled against them.

The brothers chose to accept the ruling and make peace with Lord Alyn, who rewarded them with lands on Driftmark in exchange for adding their ships to the fleet.

The following year, Daeron sailed as captain of the Corazón Verdadero, part of the fleet Lord Alyn led to the Stepstones to face the rival Free Cities fleets fighting for control of the islands.

The Velaryon fleet lost only three ships in the clash, but the Corazón Verdadero was one of them: Daeron died in the wreck.
