Laena Velaryon daughter of Alyn
Not to be confused with Laena Velaryon.
Laena Velaryon was the first daughter of Lord Alyn Velaryon and Lady Baela Targaryen, born in 134 AC and named after her maternal grandmother.
Her arrival into the world came with an unusual gift for a newborn — a dragon's egg that would end up holding a very different surprise than anyone expected.
Chapter 1
The egg that was no dragon
134 ACBooks only
Laena was born in 134 AC, the firstborn of Lord Alyn Velaryon and Lady Baela Targaryen, carrying the name of the grandmother who had come before her. She arrived bearing a dragon's egg as a gift, while her father was still away at sea; when Alyn returned, he found Baela waiting for him on the docks of King's Landing with the baby in her arms, and he lifted the girl before the crowd, who cheered them on.
The egg eventually hatched at Driftmark, though what emerged was no dragon: a wingless, pale, blind creature that lunged at the infant and tore a piece from her arm. Laena's cries brought her father running, and he wrenched the thing off her and tore it apart on the ground.
