Lianna Velaryon

Lianna Velaryon belonged to the small court Queen Rhaena Targaryen gathered at Dragonstone, made up of ladies-in-waiting drawn from houses close to the queen.

She was a niece of Lord Daemon Velaryon, Lord of the Tides, and through him a cousin of Rhaena herself and a niece of Queen Alyssa Velaryon. Her name became tied to a sickness that claimed several of the queen's ladies that same year.

Chapter 1

Niece to two queens

Books only

Lianna was born into House Velaryon, niece to Lord Daemon Velaryon, who held the office of Lord of the Tides during the reign of Maegor I Targaryen.

That kinship tied her to the crown as well: she was a cousin of Rhaena Targaryen and, through her, a niece of Queen Alyssa Velaryon, Rhaena's mother.

Chapter 2

The sickness at Dragonstone

54 ACBooks only

By the year 54 AC, Lianna belonged to the small court Rhaena kept at Dragonstone. That same year she fell ill, struck down by the same strange sickness that was killing the queen's other ladies one by one.

She died the moment her uncle's galleys set sail from Driftmark for Dragonstone. Maester Anselm had treated her without success; she slipped away amid convulsions, in Rhaena's own arms, as the queen wept over her.

Only later did it emerge that no illness lay behind her death, but poison: tears of Lys, given to her by Androw Farman.
