Luthor Tyrell
Not to be confused with Luthor Tyrell (son of Moryn) · Luthor Tyrell (son of Theodore).
Luthor Tyrell was head of House Tyrell and Lord of Highgarden, holding the titles that came with rule over the Reach: Defender of the Marches, Marshal of the Reach, and Warden of the South.
His name is tied to a tangle of broken betrothals with House Targaryen, which ended in his marriage to Olenna Redwyne, the woman with whom he had his three children.
Chapter 1
A broken betrothal
Books only
Before his marriage, Luthor had been betrothed to Princess Shaera Targaryen, daughter of King Aegon V and Queen Betha Blackwood.
The match never took place: Shaera married her own brother, Prince Jaehaerys, in secret, defying the wishes of their royal parents.
Luthor ended up marrying Olenna Redwyne, who had until then been betrothed to Prince Daeron, another of Shaera's brothers. They had three children together: Mace, Mina, and Janna.
Chapter 2
The fall during falconry
Books only
Luthor died when he fell from his horse off a cliff while hawking.
He is said to have been watching the sky at the time, following the flight of his bird, and paying no attention to where his mount was taking him.
