Alester Tyrell

Alester Tyrell was an Andal knight in the service of House Gardener, and his career gave rise to one of the Reach's houses: his own. His skill carried him to become the sworn shield of Gwayne V Gardener, the last of the so-called Three Sage Kings.

Chapter 1

Shield to a wise king

Ser Alester was one of many knights serving House Gardener, but his ability set him apart from the rest.

In time he became the sworn shield of King Gwayne V Gardener, the last of the Three Sage Kings. Out of that service came House Tyrell, which he founded himself.

Chapter 2

Two sons, two paths

Books only

He had two sons who took very different paths. The elder earned renown as a knight, only to lose his life at a tournament.

The younger, Gareth, preferred books to the sword. He was never knighted, but he rose to the office of Grand Steward.
