House Ironmaker is a minor family from the Iron Islands, sworn to House Greyjoy.

Its head, Erik Ironmaker, stands out during the assembly that chooses a new ruler for the islands, and the house ends up bound by marriage to the man who wins it.

Kingsmoot Candidacy

At the assembly held on the Iron Islands after Balon Greyjoy's death, Erik Ironmaker was the second to put himself forward, offering his own grandsons as champions to back his claim.

The bid went nowhere: later on, Erik switched sides and joined the shouting in support of Euron Greyjoy.

Marriage to the Seal

In A Dance with Dragons, Erik Ironmaker marries a niece of the new king of the Iron Islands.

The bride had fled before the wedding, so a seal stood in her place for the ceremony. With the king away from the islands, it is Erik who is left ruling in his name.
