Toron Greyjoy
Toron Greyjoy was born a salt son of Lord Dalton Greyjoy, the Red Kraken, and inherited the Seastone Chair while still a six-year-old child.
That early inheritance set off a war of succession within the Iron Islands and drew an invasion from the Westerlands, testing his claim to the Lord Reaper's title almost from the cradle.
Chapter 1
The child on the Seastone Chair
133 ACBooks only
Toron was one of the children Lord Dalton Greyjoy, the Red Kraken, had with one of his salt wives rather than a rock wife. Ironborn law made no distinction between the two when it came to inheritance, so the Seastone Chair passed to him without dispute, even though he was only six years old. His mother, given her standing, could not act as regent the way a rock wife might have, and that gap left the title open to anyone willing to fight for it.
His own aunts and their husbands moved first and took him captive. His mother was put to death. Lord Dalton's cousins backed his half-brother Rodrik and raised him as a rival claimant, while a third contender, known as Sam Salt, claimed descent from the black line of House Hoare and pressed his own claim to the islands.
Chapter 2
The invasion Pyke held off
134 ACBooks only
The war over the Seastone Chair had already run half a year in blood when, in 134 AC, Lady Johanna Lannister and Ser Leo Costayne crossed the sea with their forces and landed on the Iron Islands. The invasion answered raids Lord Dalton himself had earlier launched against the coasts of the Westerlands.
At Pyke, the men holding the chair for Toron beat back the assault, and the boy kept his seat. His half-brother Rodrik fared worse: he was taken prisoner and carried off to Casterly Rock, where he was castrated and ended up serving as a jester.
