House Blacktyde of Blacktyde is a vassal house of the Greyjoys in the Iron Islands, holding its own stronghold as its seat. Its arms, vairy sable and vert, belong to a family that some legends even trace back to the old king Qhored Hoare.

When Balon Greyjoy rose in rebellion and claimed the crown of the Iron Islands for himself, the Blacktydes answered his call, and that loyalty would weigh on the house for years to come.

The price of rebellion

In 289 AC, during Balon Greyjoy's rebellion against the Iron Throne, the Blacktydes sided with the self-proclaimed king. The lord of the house did not survive the war: he fell in battle.

His son Baelor paid a different price: taken hostage by the Iron Throne, he was sent to Oldtown, where he would spend the following eight years far from Blacktyde.

The feast at Pyke

The Blacktydes are among the guests at the feast Balon Greyjoy holds at Pyke, the gathering where the lord of the Iron Islands reveals his plans to invade the North to his own people.
