Rodrik Greyjoy son of Dalton

Rodrik was a salt-wife son of Lord Dalton Greyjoy, born of a union the law of the Iron Islands did not treat as full standing. Dalton had never taken a rock wife, so on his death the Seastone Chair passed not to Rodrik or any of his salt-born brothers, but to Toron Greyjoy, a half-brother born of a lawful marriage.

That exclusion did not settle the matter. Being a salt-wife son of a Red Kraken who had ruled through force left Rodrik in an uncertain place: no legal claim, but blood and followers willing to dispute that claim by arms.

When Toron Greyjoy was captured, the Seastone Chair effectively stood empty, and several of Lord Dalton's cousins saw in Rodrik a candidate they could back. The dispute between claimants turned into a war within the Iron Islands themselves.

In 134 AC that internal fighting drew a response from outside: Lady Johanna Lannister and Ser Leo Costayne brought their forces to the islands, in retaliation for the Red Kraken's earlier raids on the Westerlands. The fighting dragged on for close to half a year.

Rodrik was eventually captured by the invading forces and taken prisoner to Casterly Rock, seat of House Lannister, far from the sea he had wanted to rule.

At Casterly Rock, Rodrik was gelded and reduced to a court fool for House Lannister. The man who had fought for the Seastone Chair spent the rest of his days as a source of mockery in the house that had defeated him.
