The coronation of Aegon III officially closes out the Dance of the Dragons: Rhaenyra's eldest son takes the Iron Throne at eleven, too young to rule alone.
The ceremony brings with it a hurried reshuffling of power, with a Hand of the King who lasts a single day and a council of regents formed to stand behind the boy king.

Jeyne ArrynPrince Aegon takes the Iron Throne shortly after his uncle Aegon II stops occupying it, and the court has to work out on the spot who rules in the name of an eleven-year-old boy. Cregan Stark, who had marched south to the capital with his northmen, takes up the Hand's seal on the very day of the coronation, only to hand it back barely a day later. Tyland Lannister takes the office after him.
Power is not left in one man's hands: Leowyn Corbray is named Protector of the Realm, and seven lords sit as a council of regents to decide in the boy king's stead. Among them are Jeyne Arryn, Corlys Velaryon, Roland Westerling, Manfryd Mooton, and Torrhen Manderly.
