Jared Frey

Jared travels to King's Landing for the Tourney of the Hand together with several of his brothers, among them Ser Hosteen and Martyn Rivers. Past the age for jousting himself, he takes no part in the lists and simply follows his house's retinue.

Back at the Twins, he is present when Catelyn Tully negotiates with Lord Walder for the northmen's passage. After the agreement he is placed under Robb Stark's command, folded into his host.

He fights at the Battle of the Green Fork, where Robb Stark's men clash with Lannister forces. Jared is taken prisoner in the defeat and falls into enemy hands.

After the defeat, Jared is held captive together with Ser Hosteen, Ser Danwell and Ronel Rivers, in the custody of Lord Tywin Lannister; the four spend their captivity locked in the Tower of Dread, within Harrenhal.

Later he becomes part of the Frey contingent attached to Lord Roose Bolton's army, still at Harrenhal.

Jared travels to White Harbor with Symond Frey and Rhaegar Frey, to return Lord Wyman Manderly the bones of his son Wendel, killed at the Red Wedding. Beyond that delivery, the three also carry the task of securing the city's loyalty to the Iron Throne: they offer a Frey bride for Lord Wyman himself and propose betrothals between Rhaegar and Wynafryd Manderly, and between Walder Frey the Little and Wylla Manderly.

When Davos Seaworth arrives in the city to ask Wyman to swear loyalty to Stannis Baratheon, the three Freys are present. Jared claims to him that Robb Stark turned into a direwolf during the Red Wedding and killed Lord Walder Frey with his own teeth, and that Wendel Manderly died stepping into his path. Davos, stunned, calls him a liar; Jared draws his sword, and only Lord Wyman's intervention stops the clash.

Wyman pretends to believe Jared's account, though he knows it is a lie: the Iron Throne still holds his son and heir hostage, and that is why he chooses to play along. The three Freys leave White Harbor each with a horse as a parting gift and are never seen again; Aenys Frey and Hosteen Frey come to suspect that Wyman is lying about their whereabouts. At that wedding in Winterfell, between Ramsay Bolton and a bride presented as Arya Stark, Wyman has three enormous meat pies served and asks for the Rat Cook's song to be sung — a gesture that leaves open the question of whether the three Freys were still alive and present at the feast.
