Artys Arryn

He was born an Andal, in the shadow of the Giant's Lance. His shield bore a moon and a falcon, and a pair of hawk's wings adorned the helm he wore into battle.

He handled sword, lance and mace better than anyone of his time, and those who fought beside him held him as dear as his rivals feared him.

King Robar II Royce had gathered under his command the First Men of the Vale, the Mountains of the Moon and the Fingers. Against that army rose the Andals, with Artys at their head.

He left behind a decoy that Robar II ended up killing, while he himself led more than five hundred knights along a path through the Giant's Lance to fall upon the already weakened rear guard.

No one can say for certain who killed Robar II. Artys is the name repeated most often, but other candidates have disputed that blow across the centuries.

After Robar II's defeat, the houses of the First Men bent the knee to Artys, who was proclaimed King of Mountain and Vale.

House Arryn was born from that moment, ruling over the Vale, the Mountains of the Moon and the Fingers.

Centuries later, his name gets mixed up in popular memory with that of the Winged Knight, a hero of the Vale from long before the Andals ever arrived.

At the Eyrie, Lord Robert Arryn prefers the stories of the Winged Knight above all others, and demands three of them from Alayne before letting himself be readied for the journey.
