Ronnel Arryn King

Ronnel was still a child when he inherited the crown of Mountain and Vale. Rule fell to his mother, Sharra Arryn, who governed as regent queen and was held to be one of the most beautiful women in Westeros of her day.

When Aegon Targaryen made his intentions known to the independent kingdoms of Westeros, Sharra sent him her portrait and offered her hand in marriage, on condition that Ronnel be named his heir. Aegon refused the bargain.

The Vale won a victory at Gulltown, but Visenya Targaryen burned the Arryn fleet to ash. With the fleet gone, the Three Sisters rose against the Eyrie.

While Sharra gathered the Vale's army at the Bloody Gate, Aegon sent Visenya to the Eyrie riding Vhagar. When Sharra returned, she found her son sitting in the Targaryen's lap.

"Mother, may I fly with the pretty lady?" the boy asked.

Sharra bent the knee. The Arryns were named Wardens of the East and Defenders of the Vale, and Ronnel got his flight. It was this that gave him the name he would be remembered by.

Under the new Targaryen order, Queen Rhaenys arranged Ronnel's marriage to a daughter of Torrhen Stark, the former King in the North who had bent the knee.

When Aegon died and his son Aenys took the throne, the Vale joined the rebellions shaking the realm. Ronnel's own brother, Jonos Arryn, turned against him, had him imprisoned, and seized his title.

Ronnel was executed, thrown through the Moon Door, an end that cast a dark shadow over his nickname. Lord Allard Royce had already raised forces against the rebels, and it fell to Prince Maegor Targaryen, riding Balerion, to crush the uprising and see Jonos and his followers put to death.
