House Cuy of Sunhouse
Casa Cuy de Refugio del Girasol
House Cuy is a noble house of the Reach, seated at Sunhouse and sworn to the Hightowers of Oldtown.
It descends from the Andal adventurers who settled the region after the invasion, and its name has become tied to a blue pavilion strewn with sunflowers that a wandering knight would recall seeing at a distant tourney.
Chapter 1
Heirs of the Andals
Books only
Like many houses of the Reach, the Cuys are not of native stock: they descend from Andal warriors who came as invaders and stayed as lords, after being granted wives and lands by the Gardener kings who then ruled the region — Garth IX, Merle I, and Gwayne V.
From that settlement came Sunhouse, the seat the house still holds, and the bond of vassalage to the Hightowers of Oldtown that has defined it ever since.
Chapter 2
The pavilion of sunflowers
Books only
At the Tourney of Whitewalls, Ser Duncan the Tall noticed a blue pavilion covered in sunflowers among the tents of the knights gathered there.
Nothing says who had pitched it, but the color and the flowers match the Cuy arms closely enough to suspect that some member of the house was among those attending that tourney.
