Martyn Hightower
Not to be confused with Martyn Hightower (son of Ormund).
Martyn Hightower led House Hightower and ruled Oldtown from the Hightower during one of the most dangerous episodes of Maegor I Targaryen's reign, when the city came close to a joint assault by the king and his mother.
His swift move to defuse the standoff with the High Septon, before the dragons reached the city, decided Oldtown's fate without a single battle being fought.

A new Lord of the Port

In 41 AC, Martyn inherited the lordship of Oldtown on the death of his father, Manfred Hightower, along with the titles that came with leading the house: Voice of Oldtown, Lord of the Port, Lord of the Hightower, Defender of the Citadel, and Beacon of the South.

The siege that never came

Two years later, King Maegor I Targaryen and his mother, the dowager queen Visenya Targaryen, flew to Oldtown on their dragons Balerion and Vhagar to punish the High Septon, one of the chief instigators of the Faith Militant uprising. Martyn gathered his bannermen and set the city's defenses, but when the king arrived he found the gates standing wide open.
The High Septon had died that same night. As soon as word reached him, Martyn ordered the arrest of every Warrior's Son in the city, including his own brother Ser Morgan, and roused the Most Devout to gather and choose a successor.
Maegor then spent half a year as Martyn's guest at the Hightower, during which time the king reconciled with his wife, Queen Ceryse.
