Manfred Hightower son of Addam

Not to be confused with Manfred Hightower.

Manfred Hightower ruled Oldtown as head of House Hightower during the reign of Aenys I Targaryen, holding titles such as Voice of Oldtown, Lord of the Port, and Defender of the Citadel.

His house was tied to the Targaryen crown when his daughter Ceryse married Prince Maegor, amid a dispute over the prince's marriage.

Chapter 1

A bride for Maegor

In 23 AC, Queen Visenya Targaryen tried to betroth her son, Prince Maegor, to the newborn princess Rhaena, daughter of King Aenys I. The High Septon opposed the match, and put forward his own niece instead: Ceryse Hightower, Lord Manfred's daughter.

The High Septon's plan won out. Two years later, in 25 AC, Ceryse married Maegor, tying House Hightower to the Targaryen line by marriage.

Chapter 2

The secret marriage and Manfred's end

39–41 ACBooks only

That alliance was tested in 39 AC, when Maegor secretly wed Alys Harroway. Lord Manfred went before the king to demand that Alys be set aside and his daughter recognized as the rightful wife. When Maegor was exiled soon after, Ceryse left the court and returned to her father, back in Oldtown.

In 41 AC, an envoy from the Iron Bank of Braavos came to deal with Lord Manfred. That same year the old lord died, and the title of Voice of Oldtown passed to his son Martyn.
