Gaemon Targaryen

Gaemon was born in King's Landing in 73 AC, the fifth son and eleventh child of Jaehaerys I and Alysanne. Ten older siblings had come before him, among them Aegon, Daenerys, Aemon, and Baelon, and two more would follow, Valerion and Gael. His parents named him for Gaemon the Glorious, one of the Targaryen kings who had ruled before the Conquest.

The birth was long and difficult, leaving the queen exhausted, and the maesters feared for her life. The prince was born premature and frail, barely half the size his brother Vaegon had been ten years earlier. Alysanne recovered, but little Gaemon remained weak from his first days.

The prince died only days into 74 AC, before reaching three months of age. Queen Alysanne took the loss hard, and wondered whether some fault of her own had brought about her son's death.

Septa Lyra, her confidante since girlhood, tried to comfort her, assuring her she bore no blame: "the little prince is with the Mother now, who shall watch over him better than we could hope to in this world of care and sorrow."
