Aegon Targaryen

Born in the year 26 after the Conquest, Aegon was the second child and first son of the then-prince Aenys and his wife, Alyssa Velaryon. Four younger siblings would follow — Viserys, Jaehaerys, Alysanne and Vaella — and he also had an older sister, Rhaena.

In 37 AC, while staying at Dragonstone with his brother Viserys, he listened to his grandfather, King Aegon I, recount the tales of the conquest of Westeros. The old king suffered a heart attack during the telling and died shortly after, quietly.

In 41 AC, with his father now crowned as Aenys I, Aegon was wed to his own elder sister, Rhaena. The match, drawn from Valyrian custom, scandalized much of the realm and helped spark a religious uprising against the new dynasty.

The marriage produced twin daughters, Aerea and Rhaella.

When Aenys I died in 42 AC, Aegon and Rhaena found themselves besieged at the castle of Refugio Quebrado. Its lord, Lyman Lannister, sheltered them under the laws of hospitality but stopped short of swearing them loyalty or lending his swords.

It was there that Aegon learned his uncle Maegor had proclaimed himself king, prompting him to claim a throne he believed was his by right of blood.

Aegon set out to challenge his uncle for the crown and met him near the Gods Eye in 43 AC. He died in the fighting alongside his dragon Quicksilver, never to wear the crown he sought — hence the name by which he is remembered, the Uncrowned.

He was described as a handsome, slender young man, so similar to his grandfather that many saw in him the same likeness of Aegon I in his youth.

He was known for his fierce temperament and his skill with lance, axe, and sword, to the point of being regarded as the finest lancer in all of Westeros.
