Aegon was the first son of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and his sister-wife, Queen Alysanne, born in King's Landing in the year 52 after the Conquest.

He carried the name of two men of his house who came before him, though his life was too short to leave any mark beyond his parents' grief.

The boy had been born early, small and frail, and died three days later. The queen's own health suffered so badly that the maesters feared for her life.

Alysanne would always lay the blame for his death on the women who had attacked her at Maidenpool, convinced that if she had been allowed to bathe in the healing waters of Jonquil's Pool, her son would have lived.
