Ryger Rivers
Ryger Ríos
Ryger Rivers is a bastard son of Lord Walder Frey, lord of the Riverlands, born to a peasant woman who made her living milking goats. He is remembered for a single moment: he was the only one of his father's brood who dared stand up to him after Lord Walder treated a highborn visitor with contempt.
Chapter 1
The rebuke at Asta
Books and show
Ryger Rivers was born of Lord Walder Frey's affair with a peasant woman who made her living milking goats, and so he carried the surname given to bastards from the Riverlands.
When Catelyn Tully arrived at Asta to negotiate passage for the northern army across the river, Lord Walder received the lady with great rudeness. Ryger was the only one present who dared rebuke his father for such discourtesy. Lord Walder's answer was an even harsher reprimand, this time aimed at his own son.
