Perwyn Frey

Ser Perwyn Frey is one of the many sons of Lord Walder Frey, ruler of the Twins, and the first born of his marriage to Bethany Rosby.

When House Stark rises in arms, he is among the Freys who place themselves at Robb Stark's service, accompanying him from the Tourney of the Hand in King's Landing to the battlefields along the Trident.

Chapter 1

A Frey beside Robb Stark

From 297 ACBooks only

In this chapterRobb Stark

In 297 AC, Perwyn travels to King's Landing together with five other Frey relatives to attend the Tourney of the Hand — an unusual outing for a son of Lord Walder, whose house rarely ventures so far from the Twins.

When war breaks out between the Starks and the Iron Throne, Perwyn sides with Robb Stark. While Catelyn Tully negotiates with his father the terms for House Frey joining the cause, Perwyn stays close to the young King in the North as part of his guard. He later counts among the protectors Robb chooses for the battle of the Whispering Wood.

Chapter 2

Catelyn's negotiations

Books only

When Catelyn Tully sets out to treat with Renly and Stannis Baratheon, Perwyn is part of the escort that travels with her, first to Bitterbridge and then to Storm's End. The journey ends sooner than planned: Renly dies, and the party returns to Riverrun without having sealed any pact.

Back at Riverrun, it is his half-brother Martyn Rivers who brings him news of the victories Robb has won in the Westerlands. Perwyn does not take everything around him too seriously — passing the hanged bodies of some conspirators, he jokes about them.

Chapter 3

The absence no one read in time

Books only

Ser Perwyn fights in the Battle of the Fords. Shortly after, Catelyn sees him leaving Riverrun just as news arrives that King Robb has married.

When the time comes for his sister Roslin's wedding to Edmure Tully at the Twins, Catelyn notices that Perwyn is not among those present. Lothar Frey explains his absence as a delay caused by flooding on the Trident. When the ceremony turns and the Red Wedding begins, Catelyn recalls that absence — along with Alesander Frey's, and Roslin's tears — as warnings no one read in time.

Chapter 4

A decent man

Books only

At the investiture of Riverrun, Ser Perwyn speaks with Ser Daven Lannister and tells him that his sister Roslin is in love with her husband and prays to bear a daughter. To Daven, Perwyn himself seems a decent man.
