Death of Lucerys Velaryon
muerte de Lucerys Velaryon
The death of Lucerys Velaryon takes place in 129 AC, when the young prince is struck down along with his dragon Arrax over Storm's End, at the hands of his uncle Aemond Targaryen and the dragon Vhagar. The event ends any chance of a settlement between the rival claimants to the throne and pushes the Seven Kingdoms into the open war known as the Dance of the Dragons.
Chapter 1
The errand to Storm's End
129 ACBooks and show
Lucerys Velaryon flies to Storm's End on Arrax to deliver a message on behalf of his mother, Queen Rhaenyra. There he crosses paths with Aemond Targaryen, who has already arrived riding Vhagar, the oldest and largest of the living dragons.
The encounter between the two princes turns into a chase through the air. Vhagar catches Arrax and kills him; Lucerys dies with his dragon. The chronicles disagree on whether Aemond meant to kill him or whether Vhagar simply slipped from his control.
Chapter 2
The war with no way back
129 ACBooks and show
Lucerys's death becomes the spark that turns the Dance of the Dragons into open war between the factions of Rhaenyra and Aegon II. Until then there had been rival coronations and isolated deaths; after Storm's End, there is no turning back.
