In 105 AC, King Viserys I Targaryen named his daughter Rhaenyra his heir to the Iron Throne after being left a widower with no surviving sons. Thousands of lords and knights came forward to swear her their loyalty as the future ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
Oath to Rhaenyra
Viserys I had lost his wife and newborn son within the span of a single day. With no sons left to succeed him, the king turned to Rhaenyra, his only surviving child, and raised her as heir to the Iron Throne.
The court answered with a procession of oaths: thousands of lords and knights came before her to swear their loyalty as the realm's future ruler. That same year Criston Cole joined the Kingsguard, and Harrold Westerling took the post of Lord Commander left vacant by the death of Ryam Redwyne. Lyonel Strong was named Hand of the King.
