Brandon Stark, known as the Boaster, was Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North during the reign of Jaehaerys I Targaryen.
His name became tied to the long journey to King's Landing to attend the Golden Wedding, escorted by northern vassal lords and men of the Night's Watch.

When Lord Roderick Stark died, the lordship of Winterfell passed to Brandon, who ruled the North as Warden during the reign of Jaehaerys I Targaryen.
Chapter 2
The journey to the Golden Wedding

Already weakened, Brandon crossed the realm to King's Landing to attend the Golden Wedding, accompanied by his sons Walton and Alaric. A dozen northern vassal lords and thirty men of the Night's Watch travelled with them.
The return proved so harsh that Brandon died shortly after reaching Winterfell, in the year 49. He was succeeded by his son Walton.
