Talisa Stark

Talisa Maegyr

Talisa Maegyr was a healer born in Volantis, shaped by a childhood that turned her against the cruelty of slavery in her home city. She settled in Westeros and treated the wounded of the War of the Five Kings.

There she met Robb Stark, King in the North, and married him in secret, becoming his queen and breaking off the marriage pact he had sworn to House Frey.

Chapter 1

A childhood in Volantis

Show only

Talisa was born in Volantis. At twelve, while her parents traveled to a wedding days away from the city, she was left in charge of her younger brother. On a hot day the two of them went swimming in the Rhoyne with other children, and when she lost sight of him she found him floating face down, not breathing.

A slave marked with a fish tattoo on his face ran to help, risking his own life — a slave who touched a noble without leave could be put to death. He revived the boy by pressing on his chest, and Talisa, struck by a stranger risking everything for nothing in return, made two decisions there: she would not spend her life as the noblewomen around her did, and she would never again live somewhere slavery was lawful. She trained as a healer and eventually settled in Westeros.

Chapter 2

The healer who challenged a king

After the battle of Oxcross, Talisa treated the wounded from both sides, Lannister and northern alike, and amputated a soldier's leg. When Robb Stark thanked her for being there to save the man, she told him the soldier hadn't been lucky that Robb was there at all, and reminded him the man was only a fisherman called to fight, untrained for war.

Talisa joined Robb's marching army, and he introduced her to his mother, Catelyn Tully. Asked about her family, Talisa said her name was Maegyr and that in Volantis they didn't use the titles of the Seven Kingdoms. Catelyn warned her son that he wasn't free to love whoever he chose.

On the road to the Crag to secure medical supplies, Talisa and Robb spoke of Eddard Stark and what he'd taught his son about caring for his bannermen, until news came that Catelyn had freed Jaime Lannister. That night Talisa told Robb about her past, and the two admitted their feelings for each other. Days later they married in secret before a septon.

Chapter 3

The road to Riverrun

Show only

Talisa told Robb about her mother's prejudice against Westerosi when Roose Bolton arrived with news of Hoster Tully's death, the sack of Winterfell, and the disappearance of Bran and Rickon Stark. On the road to Riverrun for the funeral, she watched Catelyn working a prayer wheel of the Faith of the Seven and offered to help, but Catelyn told her only a mother praying for her children could make one.

At Riverrun, Talisa helped Robb plan his battles and tended to the two captive Lannister squires. After the boys were murdered, she stood with the rest of Robb's family to watch Rickard Karstark beheaded for treason.

Chapter 4

The Red Wedding

300 ACShow only

On the way to the Twins, after lying with Robb, Talisa wrote a letter in High Valyrian to her mother. She teased him about not knowing the language and suggested they visit Volantis together once the war ended, so she could introduce her husband and her future child to her mother. When Robb took in the news of her pregnancy, they embraced, happy.

At the Twins, Walder Frey received them with the bread and salt hospitality demanded, though he told Talisa he understood exactly what had turned Robb from his betrothal: a firm young body, not love. Talisa attended the wedding of Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey, which brought back memories of her own, and during the feast told Robb that if the child she carried was a boy, she'd like to name him Eddard.

Soon after, Walder Frey betrayed his guests, and the Freys in the hall killed everyone seated at the King in the North's table. Talisa was stabbed several times in the belly and bled to death beside the unborn child, only feet from her husband.
