House Woodfoot of Bear Island

Casa Piedemadera de Isla del Oso

Before the Mormonts came to Bear Island, the island had other lords: House Woodfoot. Their rule is remembered today mostly for how it ended, and for a legend that ties them to one of the most feared names from the North's past.

No Woodfoot survived to tell the tale. What is left of this house is two loose facts: the conquest that erased its line, and a suspicion, never confirmed, about who might have come from it.

Chapter 1

The end at Ironborn hands

Books only

Iron-born ships reached the shores of Bear Island and wiped out the Woodfoot line. The sources give no date and no name for the last of the house: only that the island lost its own lords and passed into other hands.

Chapter 2

The prize of the wrestling match

Books only

King Rodrik Stark won Bear Island in a wrestling match and gave it to House Mormont, which has ruled it ever since. With that, the Woodfoot name dropped off the map of the North.

Chapter 3

The shadow of the Night's King

Books only

Among the many theories about the origin of the Night's King is one that makes him a Woodfoot, though it is neither the only guess nor the most accepted one. There is no more support for the idea than that mention: no name, no date, no proof.
