Rickon Stark son of Cregan

Not to be confused with Rickon Stark · Rickon Stark (son of Benjen).

Rickon Stark was heir to Winterfell in the days of his father, Cregan Stark, and as a child was bound to a pact that tied House Stark to the Velaryon cause during the Dance of the Dragons.

As a grown man he married Jeyne Manderly and carried the North's arms into Dorne, in the war King Daeron I fought to conquer that kingdom.

The son who cost his mother her life

Rickon was born in 128 AC, the only child of Lord Cregan Stark and his first wife, Arra Norrey. The birth cost his mother her life.

He was named for his grandfather, a gesture that in the North carries as much weight as any title.

Chapter 2

A promised marriage that never came

When the Dance of the Dragons broke out in 129 AC, Prince Jacaerys Velaryon sought Lord Cregan's support against the Pact of Ice and Fire. That support came at a price: the first daughter Jacaerys fathered would be sent to Winterfell at age seven, raised there until she came of age, to marry Rickon.

Jacaerys died that same year without an heir, and the betrothal died with him before Rickon ever met the girl he was meant to marry.

Chapter 3

A song for his stepmother

In 132 AC, Lord Cregan married Lady Alysanne Blackwood. At the wedding feast, young Rickon sang a song for his new stepmother.

Marriage to Jeyne Manderly

As a grown man, Rickon married Jeyne Manderly. They had two daughters, Sansa and Serena.

Chapter 5

Daeron's war in Dorne

161 ACBooks only

Rickon took up arms for King Daeron I Targaryen in the conquest of Dorne. The king himself recorded his courage in the book he wrote about that campaign.

He died outside Sunspear, in one of the war's last battles, in 161 AC. His death was mourned in the North for years afterward, made worse by the troubles that beset his half-brothers' rule.
