Orryn Baratheon

Ser Orryn Baratheon was one of the younger brothers of Rogar Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End during the reigns of Maegor I and Jaehaerys I Targaryen.

His closeness to his house's power first placed him among the candidates to marry Princess Alysanne, and later at the center of a court conspiracy that would shape the rest of his life.

Orryn was born in the year 26, one of the younger brothers of Rogar Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End through the reigns of Maegor I and Jaehaerys I Targaryen. When Rogar rose as Hand of the King, his family's standing put Orryn forward as a possible husband for Princess Alysanne Targaryen.

Orryn was staying in King's Landing at the moment his brother was removed from the office of Hand; afterward he returned, together with his brothers, to Storm's End.

The Storm's End Conspiracy

50 ACBooks only

In the year 50, acting on Rogar's orders, Orryn traveled to Oldtown and presented himself at the mother house beside the Starry Sept, demanding the surrender of Princess Rhaella, then a novice sworn to the Faith of the Seven. Septa Karolyn, who led the house, refused to hand her over, and the knights accompanying Orryn were overpowered by Ser Casper Straw.

Questioned after his capture, he admitted the true purpose of the mission: to bring Rhaella to Storm's End, where his brother meant to force her to claim she was in truth the lost Princess Aerea and proclaim her queen. For this, Lord Donnel Hightower had him imprisoned.

Chapter 3

Pardon and Exile

Books only

When Jaehaerys I came of age, the king chose mercy: he pardoned Rogar, recalling the support he had once given him against Maegor I, and extended the pardon to Orryn as well. The sentence was not lifted entirely — Orryn was banished to Essos for ten years.

Orryn crossed the sea together with the men who had followed him to Oldtown and settled in Tyrosh, where he entered the service of the Archon of that city. He married the Archon's daughter the following year — the same young woman Rogar had once tried to betroth to Jaehaerys himself — and had a daughter with her whose parentage remained in doubt.

When the Archon lost his position, Orryn left for Myr and joined the Maiden's Men. He met his death shortly after, fighting in the Disputed Lands against the Brave Companions.
