Borys Baratheon

When Rogar Baratheon took the widowed queen Alyssa Velaryon and her children, the princes Jaehaerys and Alysanne, into Storm's End to shield them from King Maegor I's wrath, Borys was already serving his elder brother and stood by him throughout.

Borys held that Rogar did not fear Maegor, and even dreamed of one day challenging him to single combat and killing him with his own hands.

According to one of the older, shorter versions of "A Caution for Young Girls," in the year 50 AC Borys met Lady Coryanne Wylde at an inn south of the Blackwater and, in Rogar's name, ordered her to seduce the young King Jaehaerys I so as to wreck his marriage to Queen Alysanne.

Archmaester Crey held that the meeting never took place, and that the tale was invented to pin on Borys a lie really meant to smear Rogar's name; Archmaester Gyldayn, however, did not rule out that some of it was true.

After his youngest brother, Ser Orryn, was caught trying to carry off Princess Rhaella of Oldtown to Storm's End, Rogar rewrote his will and named Borys his heir. When Jaehaerys came of age and summoned Rogar to King's Landing, Borys urged him to ride for the Wall and take the black, convinced the king would do exactly that to Rogar if he did not move first.

Rogar ignored the advice, and in 52 AC his brother's first son, Boremund, was born. Borys lost his place as heir with that birth, and from then on quarreled with Rogar with a bitterness he had not shown before.

Two years later, in 54 AC, Lady Jocelyn Baratheon was born to Rogar and Alyssa Velaryon, and her mother died bringing her into the world. Borys stood with his brothers when the dowager queen Rhaena arrived at Storm's End and threatened them harshly, though none of them took her warning seriously — they even laughed at it.

The following year, in 55 AC, he travelled to King's Landing for the tourney held to mark the opening of the Dragonpit, where he took part in the mêlée.

In time Ser Borys left Westeros, first for Myr and then for Volantis, before returning and throwing in his lot with the Vulture King in the Red Mountains; his knowledge of the Stormlands helped the rebel invade and sack the land that had once been Borys's home.

When the Third Dornish War broke out, he was the first of the rebels to be cornered by his own brothers' men. To spare Rogar the name of kinslayer, King Jaehaerys challenged Borys himself to single combat; Borys accepted with mockery and charged the king, but fell defeated beneath Darkfire, the king's Valyrian steel sword.
