Edrick Stark

Edrick Stark held the throne of Winterfell as King in the North for so long that snow whitened his beard before his reign faded from anyone's memory — hence the name he is remembered by, Snowbeard.

When he died he was laid to rest in the crypts of Winterfell, where the lords of his house are buried.

Age weighed on him more than the crown did. Grown old and too weak to hold his kingdom's borders, he watched the Wolf's Den fall to slavers out of the Stepstones.

It wasn't Edrick who won it back: that fell to his great-grandson, King Brandon Stark, known as Ice Eyes, before the stronghold returned to the North.
