Ermesande Hayford is, almost from birth, the last of her house: with no one else left to inherit Hayford, the lordship falls entirely on a small child.
The Lannisters see an opportunity in that and betroth her to one of their own, Tyrek Lannister.

It is then that she is betrothed to Tyrek Lannister.
