House Banefort of Banefort is a noble house of the Westerlands, sworn to House Lannister of Casterly Rock and seated at the castle of Banefort.

It claims descent from a hooded hero of the First Men era, and its sigil — a black hooded man on a grey field within a fiery border — recalls that origin.

Legendary Origins

The house traces its line back to a hero known as the Hooded Man, said to have lived in the days of the First Men.

Later, in the Age of Heroes, one of his descendants, Morgon Banefort, claimed to be a necromancer, until King Loreon I Lannister defeated him.

Banner at Harrenhal

During the war told in A Clash of Kings, Arya Stark sees House Banefort's sigil as Lord Tywin Lannister marches out of Harrenhal, a sign that men from Banefort rode among his troops.
