Joy Hill

Gloria Colina

Joy Hill is the bastard daughter Gerion Lannister had with a woman named Briony, raised in the shadow of Casterly Rock without her father's protection from an early age.

Her story matters because Lord Tywin Lannister uses her as a piece in his marriage pacts: first to seal an agreement with the Freys after Robb Stark's war, then to close a deal with Sybell Spicer's family.

Chapter 1

A girl without a father

From 288 ACBooks only

Gloria is born in 288 AC, the bastard daughter of Gerion Lannister and a woman named Briony. She carries the surname the law gives to bastards from the Westerlands, Hill, not her father's, though the weight of that name never quite leaves her.

She grows up without him. The story that circulates is that Gerion died when she was very young, but her cousin Jaime tells it differently: to him, what happened is that his uncle disappeared, with no further explanation. Jaime describes her as a sweet girl, but alone ever since.

Chapter 2

The pact with the Freys

Books only

When Lord Tywin Lannister settles his deal with Lord Walder Frey over the betrayal dealt to Robb Stark, the agreement includes Gloria too: she is betrothed to one of Lord Walder's bastard sons.

No one asks her. Her betrothal is just another clause in the pact, the piece Tywin uses to pay for an alliance that costs him nothing.

Chapter 3

The bride Sybell Spicer did not expect

Books only

The betrothal to the Freys comes to nothing: Lord Tywin changes his plan and promises Gloria to Ser Raynald Westerling, Sybell Spicer's eldest son, as part of a different arrangement.

Sybell had understood that her son would marry a Lannister of Casterly Rock, and assumes it means a trueborn daughter of the house. When she learns the intended bride is a twelve-year-old bastard, the news leaves her far from pleased.
