Tyrek Lannister
Tyrek Lannister is the only son of Ser Tygett Lannister and Darlessa Marbrand, making him a nephew of Lord Tywin Lannister. As a boy he serves as a squire to King Robert Baratheon at the Red Keep, a post that puts him close to the throne in the years before the war for the Iron Throne.
His marriage to the infant heiress of House Hayford makes him, while still a boy himself, Lord Protector of a domain that isn't his — as convenient for the Lannisters as it is strange to the other royal squires.
Chapter 1
The king's squire
Books only
Tyrek grows up as the only child of Ser Tygett Lannister, Tywin's younger brother, and Darlessa Marbrand. As a teenager he enters King Robert I's service as one of his squires, alongside another boy of House Lannister. He's described as curly-haired and golden, with the green eyes he shares with his cousin, Queen Cersei.
Chapter 2
The bride in the cradle and the bread riot
299 ACBooks only
With the war already under way, the Lannisters marry him to Lady Ermesande Hayford, the last of her house and still in the cradle, which gives Tyrek the title Lord Protector of Hayford. The other squires, with barracks humor, start calling him Nan.
When Kings Stannis and Renly leave the capital stripped of grain and cattle, hunger spreads through King's Landing. The royal procession is returning to the Red Keep after seeing Princess Myrcella off at the docks when a starving, furious crowd attacks it along the way. Several die in the riot, and somewhere in the chaos Tyrek vanishes without a trace. Tywin and Tyrion set men to search for him, but neither he nor his body ever turns up.
Chapter 3
The search that found nothing
Books only
Ser Addam Marbrand, the new commander of the gold cloaks, takes over the search, but he too turns up no trace of where Tyrek went.
In time, Jaime starts to suspect Varys. Tyrek, as Robert's former squire, might have known something about the circumstances of the king's death — and the eunuch, who didn't go down to the docks with the rest of the court that day, would have had an easy chance to use his agents to spirit him away amid the riot's chaos.
