Gerion Lannister

Gerion was born in 255 AC, the fourth son of Lord Tytos Lannister and Lady Jeyne Marbrand. His father welcomed the news with joy, but the family's luck did not hold for long: a month after the birth, Jeyne died without fully recovering.

The loss changed Tytos. The man who had celebrated his fourth son's birth became someone else after he was widowed, and that shadow followed Gerion from his very first month of life.

Unlike Kevan, who stayed close to Tywin, or Tygett, who tried to make his own way, Gerion chose to laugh the whole thing off. As his sister Genna put it, «it is better to laugh at the game than to play and lose».

He was remembered as an easy laugher who could get others laughing along, and as the most reckless of Tytos's sons. At sixteen he crossed the sea to see the Free Cities, a journey none of his older brothers ever made.

Both Jaime and Tyrion counted Gerion as their favorite uncle. At Casterly Rock he was remembered for rewarding Tyrion whenever the boy memorized historical facts or turned tricks at the high table, and for once giving him a pair of books about the wonders of the world, written by a maester from Lomas Pasolargo.

He also made a gesture toward King Robert Baratheon, gifting him a golden dagger with an ivory hilt and a sapphire set in the pommel.

In 288 AC, Gerion had a daughter with a woman named Briony. Born a bastard, the girl was given the name Gloria Hill, as custom marks children born out of wedlock in the westerlands.

Around 292 AC, Gerion set out on a dangerous search: to recover Brightroar, the ancestral sword of House Lannister, along with any other family treasures that might have survived the curse that destroyed Valyria.

Worried by his absence, Tywin sent men after him. They tracked him to Volantis, where half his crew refused to go on once Gerion insisted on sailing for the Smoking Sea; he answered by buying slaves to replace them and pressed on regardless.

Nothing has been heard of him since. Few return from the ruins of Valyria, so he is presumed dead, though no one can say for certain.
