House Broom
Casa Broom
House Broom is a vassal house of the Lannisters of Casterly Rock, settled in the Westerlands since the age of the First Men.
Its place in the history of Westeros was shaped by the side it took in the Faith's rebellion against the Iron Throne, a choice that had direct consequences for its seat.
Chapter 1
Vassals of Casterly Rock
Books only
The Brooms are a Westerlands family whose origins reach back to the golden age of the First Men, long before the Targaryens ever set foot in Westeros. No known source credits them with a castle of their own, yet their name has remained bound to that of the Lannisters of Casterly Rock, whom they serve as vassals.
Their arms carry that age: a silver helm crested with a sprig of broom, set upon a field checkered in green and black.
Chapter 2
Balerion's fire
Books only
When the Faith of the Seven rose in arms against the Iron Throne, House Broom sided with the Seven rather than with King Maegor I Targaryen. The choice cost them dearly: their castle was among the strongholds Maegor put to the torch with Balerion, the most feared dragon of his line.
No other trace of that episode survives beyond the burning itself; neither the exact date nor the name of the lost stronghold has come down to us.
