Rickard Stark, son of King Jon Stark, was Lord of Winterfell and King in the North, known by the nickname Wolfsmile.
He is remembered above all for extending his house's rule southward, taking land from a rival king and sealing the conquest with a marriage.
Conquest of the Neck
Rickard Stark took the Neck from the Marsh King who ruled it at the time. It was not easy ground to win, but it passed into Stark hands after the clash.
The king sealed the victory by marrying the Marsh King's daughter, binding the conquered land to Winterfell through marriage as well as by force.
