Tyrion III Lannister
Tyrion III Lannister ruled from Casterly Rock as King of the Rock in the years when the first Andal settlers began arriving in the Westerlands in growing numbers.
He sought to bind them to his kingdom through arranged marriages and through the old practice of taking hostages, a policy that shaped his reign in the face of this new wave of newcomers.

Marriages with the newcomers

With Tyrion III on the throne of Casterly Rock, Andal warriors began arriving in the Westerlands in greater numbers than under his predecessor, Tybolt Lannister.
To channel that influx, the king arranged marriages between the most powerful Andal warlords and the daughters of the lords of the great western houses, hoping to bind the newcomers to the established nobility.
Chapter 2
Hostages at Casterly Rock

Tyrion III did not fully trust his new allies: he knew of the betrayals the Andals had committed in the Vale of Arryn.
So he also brought the sons and daughters of those warlords to Casterly Rock, where they served as pages and cupbearers while effectively acting as hostages guaranteeing their families' loyalty. He had a son, Gerold, who would carry on the line of Casterly Rock.
