Reginald Lannister

Reginald is a distant relative of Lord Tywin Lannister, and that thin blood tie is enough to earn him an officer's uniform in the Westerlands. Tywin himself later admits the rank has nothing to do with any proven skill; carrying the family name is all it takes.

Married, he leaves his wife behind in Lannisport when the army marches off to war.

At Harrenhal, Reginald sits in on Lord Tywin's war council. When the talk turns to how Robb Stark's army will weather the coming winter, he ventures that the cold will work against the northerners; Tywin corrects him in front of everyone, pointing out that the Starks are built for ice, not heat.

The council goes on, and Tywin rebukes his bannermen for waiting on Robb to make a mistake instead of forcing one. When he asks how they intend to stop him, Reginald answers with a remark about how tired everyone is and how well some sleep would do them, dodging the question entirely.

Tywin's patience runs out: he orders him back to his wife in Lannisport before he decides to send her his head instead, and reminds him once more that his rank comes from nothing but his surname; were he not a Lannister, he'd be scrubbing pots in the camp kitchen.
