House Sarsfield of Sarsfield
Casa Sarsfield de Sarsfield
House Sarsfield holds the lordship of Sarsfield in the westerlands as a bannerman of House Lannister of Casterly Rock. Its arms show a green arrow crossing a silver bend on a green field, and some sources credit it with the words "True to the Mark".
Though it never stands at the centre of events, its name and banner keep turning up among the troops and standards that follow the Lannisters through the War of the Five Kings.
Chapter 1
From enemies to vassals
Books only
Sarsfield enters the story of the westerlands during the Andal Invasion, when the Kings of the Rock changed tack: rather than fighting the newcomers to the last man, they began marrying them into their own families.
Out of those unions came the house that rules Sarsfield today, sworn ever since to Casterly Rock.
Chapter 2
The emblem seen at Harrenhal
Books only
During the war of the five kings, Arya Stark notices Sarsfield's green arrow among the devices going past as Lord Tywin Lannister rides out of Harrenhal at the head of his host.
It is a brief mention, barely a flash among banners, but it shows that Sarsfield's archers march with the Lannisters.
Chapter 3
A squire at the crossroads
Books only
Later, at the crossroads inn, one of the boys killed by Arya Stark turns out to be a squire in the house's service.
The fact is noted without further detail: neither his name nor the fuller circumstances of the episode are recorded beyond that tie to Sarsfield.
Chapter 4
Banners that follow the lions
Books only
Sarsfield's name surfaces again when Lord Tywin's body is carried back to Casterly Rock: among the western lords and knights escorting the funeral procession rides its banner as well.
Around the same time, Brienne of Tarth notices a soldier wearing Sarsfield's device among Lord Randyll Tarly's men stationed at the gates of Maidenpool.
And when Ser Jaime Lannister gathers troops in King's Landing to march on Riverrun and force its surrender, mounted archers supplied by Sarsfield ride among those forces.
