House Parren

Casa Parren

House Parren was a noble house of the Westerlands, sworn to the Lannisters of Casterly Rock. Its origins trace back to the Andal invasion of the west, when former enemies began marrying into the line of the Kings of the Rock.

According to semi-canonical sources, its arms showed four saltire fields: two with burgundy-and-white stripes, and the other two bearing a black lion's head on gold.

Chapter 1

From enemies to kin

Books only

House Parren emerged from the Andal invasion of the west, when the Kings of the Rock changed tack: instead of fighting the newcomers to the last, they began marrying their children to them. Out of those unions came the line that took the Parren name, sworn from then on to Casterly Rock.

A different, not entirely compatible tradition places the Parren origin in the Reach: Andal adventurers granted wives and lands by Kings Garth IX, Merle I and Gwayne V, all of House Gardener. The sources disagree, and the Atlas catalogue does not choose between them.

Chapter 2

Beside the rebel prince

Books only

When Prince Aegon Targaryen rose against his uncle, King Maegor I Targaryen, a Lord Parren was among the few lords who joined his march. No further detail survives about who that lord was or what part he played in Maegor's fall.

Chapter 3

The tourney and the final silence

Books only

A member of House Parren attended the Tourney at Ashford, though the sources give neither his name nor what he did there.

According to semi-canonical sources, the house died out at some point after 209 AC, with no record of how or why it disappeared.
