House Spicer of Castamere

The Spicers haven't held Castamere for generations. Before the family had a coat of arms, Rolph and Sybell's grandfather traveled the Westerlands selling spices, hardly a trade that earns titles or land on its own.

Their grandmother came from farther away: an eastern maegi, so the story goes, though nothing of her remains now but rumor and the blood she left in her grandchildren.

When northern forces take the Crag, Ser Rolph Spicer is the one holding it as castellan. Robb Stark's marriage to his niece, Jeyne Westerling, changes the whole family's allegiance: the Westerlings, Lannister vassals until then, swear loyalty to the King in the North, and the Spicers follow them.

Rolph joins Robb's retinue during the king's stay in the west. Robb picks him to escort young Martyn Lannister to the Golden Tooth, where he's traded for Robett Glover — the same day a letter arrives from Lord Tywin agreeing to the exchange.

On the other side of the war, Tyrion Lannister sends men through the Riverlands to find his brother Jaime, among them Ser Samwell Spicer, cousin to Rolph and his sister Sybell — a sign the family has people serving both sides.

With the war already decided, Lady Sybell tells Jaime Lannister how she made sure her daughter never gave King Robb a child, exactly as Lord Tywin had asked of her.

The reward comes from the king himself: Tommen grants Rolph Spicer possession of Castamere and the title of Lord, in payment for turning on the Starks alongside the Westerlings.
